A Hell of an Idea

It’s not my idea – I never heard of it until this afternoon… (Either one of them!)

But why not?  A 28th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution that in essence says, “All of us REALLY ARE EQUAL…” including our new “ruling class” of those elected to public office and all it’s wonderful perks and benefits.

Is it just a hoax? Snopes.com says “maybe / maybe not.” Or just a pipe dream?  No to the first; maybe yes to the second.  But as fanciful as it sounds, it’s simply one hell of an idea.

Proposed 28th Amendment to the United States Constitution:

“Congress shall make no law that applies to the citizens of the United States that does not apply equally to the Senators and/or Representatives, and Congress shall make no law that applies to the Senators and/or Representatives that does not apply equally to the citizens of the United States.”

Oh, I know… All those “reasonable folk” will tell me how hopelessly naive’ this whole idea is.   And it probably is… maybe even as hopelessly naive’ as a group of headstrong colonists who actually thought there was some kind of substance to their dream of being independent from the power and might of the British Empire?  Maybe.

But once the idea takes hold – it’s hard to let it go, isn’t it?  I mean, what image do you conjure up when you see the colors red, white, and blue together?  I don’t know… maybe we need a few more dreamers today.  I look around and see what all the “realists” have given us.

Something worth thinking about?

THIS GUY thinks so.

Apparently so does Neal Rechtman. (Although he’s got the “2nd one” in mind.”

And It doesn’t appear to JUST be an urban legend. (But certainly a huge long shot, given our particular “status quo.”)
