Don’t use Google Play

Talk about learning from getting screwed…

My phone was infected with adware from an app I tried then uninstalled.  Then I searched for a malware / adware scanner app on Google Play.  Malware Bytes for Android was advertised with a “FREE TRIAL,” so I downloaded, ran a scan, and it found nothing.  I uninstalled it and didn’t give it another thought…

Until tonight when I got a receipt from Google Play that had hit my PayPal account – without my consent – for an auto renewing subscription for $21.44!  An hour later after chatting with “Jessica” on Google, she wanted me to know that “CONGRATULATIONS!  I’ve applied for a refund;  IF you get it it will be in 4 or 5 days.

Lesson learned:  Stay away from the 800 pound Google gorilla!  They will screw you out of every dime they can manage to steal.

UPDATE:  You might as well not count on Paypal to support you against the massive might of Google:  They have already sent me a denial on my request because “Google proved they shipped merchandise” (Which is impossible since there wasn’t anything to be shipped.)  I guess this is a case of needing to just cancel my Paypal account also.
