I saw Hershel Walker’s first collegiate touchdown. I was in the stands at Neyland Stadium, saw Bill Bates move in to tackle him on the 4 yard line, and watched Walker run flat over Bates and carry him upside down into the end zone. All around us the chant was going up: “Mr. Bates? Meet Mr. Walker!”
I watched him play for the New Jersey Generals of the USFL – that wonderful spring football league that many of us enjoyed before Donald Trump’s ego and hubris ruined it. Never did pay much attention to him as a Dallas Cowboy, but that had more to do with them being the Dallas Cowboys than anything else.
There’s absolutely no doubt the man could play football.
But now he’s trying to play politics. Most notably, he’s trying to join the “team” of Trumpkins who seem to think that being a politician is essentially doing what Trump does, saying what Trump says, and in general, acting as much like as ass as Trump manages to do. (The little quip he makes about “Jesus Christ is my “GM, my coach, and my quarterback” is almost enough, in and of itself, to make me want to vomit.)
And now it appears that Walker’s game plan includes lying as much as Trump lies. Ostensibly, he’s another one of those “Family Values” republicans. But it’s coming out that his idea of “family” is 4 kids, each from a different woman, where Daddy Hershel basically “sowed his seed” and then moved on to do it again (and again, and again.) Even his own son sees through this crap and has soundly denounced him. This is what Christian Walker has to say: “Family values, people? He has four kids, four different women, wasn’t in the house raising one of them. He was out having sex with other women. Do you care about family values?”
And yet there are still people in the state of Georgia who really (REALLY???) are planning to waste their vote on this guy? What is the elusive common denominator among republicans? And by that I mean, what is the common thing they are all doing to kill so many brain cells that they continue believing lies like this, and continue supporting liars like apparently Hershel Walker has become. You’ve come a long way baby… from that first touchdown to being the laughing stock of Georgia.
