It appears today that we’ve reached a point where we can, with some confidence, classify and categorize the republican contingent in our Congress. I think the news that Senator (and medical doctor) Bill Cassidy of Louisiana supports Anti-vaxxer Robert Kennedy Jr. (who appears to have a headache in this picture; maybe he didn’t drink enough bleach with breakfast this morning?) for Secretary of Health and Human Services pretty much puts any questions about these republican senators to bed. They are cowards. Afraid of getting kicked on the cushy gravy train that a seat in Congress provides. Willing to do (or NOT do) anything, sell their souls to a sociopath named Trump, believe the wealthy nutcases threatening them with a primary challenge from Hell if they take one step outside of MAGA(t) lines.
Today, Senator Cassidy voted to send Kennedy’s confirmation to the full Senate, where – unless a single republican joins Susan Collins of Main and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska (and assuming that 1/2 balls Mitch McConnell actually does something other than the same old cheap talk) – We will have a Secretary of HHS would may likely put actual lives at risk with his idiotic ideas and conspiracy theories.
Cassidy today voted “aye” and said that “Kennedy has assured him he would not topple the nation’s childhood vaccination program.” (Sure he did! Wink, wink, nod, nod…) So, now when Kennedy begins doing exactly what he lied about to the Senate Committee and begins dismantling our vaccination protocols, he at least can express fake outrage, “But he told me he wouldn’t do that!”
I already knew my NC Senator Thom Tillis was going to cave. He’s not about to do ANYTHING to piss off his minders on the right wing because he knows he’ll get primaried in the next election. But Cassidy is also up for re-election, and the pressure from the right wing simply got to him.
How sad it is, that we are down to 2 & 1/2 republicans in the Senate that have any kind of balls to stand up to this absolutely insanity. And since McConnell can only be described as half-balls at best, isn’t it ironic that those two with cajones are women?
