I found this reply from Senator Thom Tillis in my email inbox this morning.  (I’ll at least give him – or his office – credit for replying; North Carolina’s other senator, Ted Budd doesn’t bother to reply to most emails, or sends such generic “thank you for playing” nonsense that they might as well not bother.)  Here’s the email exactly like I got it:

The American people delivered a clear message that they want the country to move in a new direction by electing Donald Trump as President. Now that the new Senate majority has been sworn in, our top priority must be considering and confirming President Trump’s Cabinet nominees. I look forward to working with President Trump, fulfilling the Senate’s advice and consent role, and confirming his nominees as quickly as possible.
|In addition to the Cabinet posts, there are over 1,000 positions that require Presidential nomination and Senate confirmation. However, not all Presidential nominees and appointments are subject to Senate confirmation. For example, Presidential cabinet positions, the secretaries of the various agencies, ambassadors, and federal judges do require Senate confirmation, while most employees of the White House do not.

To say the least, I was underwhelmed.  Such a “clear message” sent by the American people!  Trump’s mandate based on a whopping 49.8% of the popular vote, a HUGE 1.3 percent more votes than Kamala Harris received?  And let’s not forget for a moment that last November 5th more than THIRTEEN MILLION people stayed home.  Yeah, that republican math that equals “mandate,” “newdirection,” or “clear messages”… Thanks senator, for yet another republican example of talking nonsense out of your ass.

And Senator Tillis is “looking forward to working with President Trump, fulfilling the Senate’s advice and consent role?”  OK:  That pretty much tells me all I need to know.  It’s time to begin publicly asking, begging if needs be, or pleading as loud as I can for Roy Cooper to go ahead and announce – RIGHT EFFING NOW! – that he plans to run for the U.S. Senate against Tillis in two years.
